Since 2005, Santa Rosa Academy has operated an innovative character-based educational program pursuant to a charter authorized and approved by the Menifee Union School District. For many years, the school bounced from leased location to leased location until plans began in 2011 to purchase a vacant parcel of land and open a brand new school facility for the 2013-14 school year. Santa Rosa opened its doors to approximately 59 students in grades K through 9 in 2005 and as of 2012 had grown to an enrollment of 956 students. Hansberger & Klein, PLC served as borrowers counsel to close an approximately $25,000,000 bond transaction for the purpose of acquiring land and ground up construction. With the construction of the new facility, Santa Rosa increased the school’s capacity to approximately 2,000 students, which includes approximately 650 independent study students. As part of the bond transaction, the school successfully acquired an approximately 25-acre site on which it built its initial school facilities, consisting of approximately 67,065 square feet located at 27587 La Piedra Road, Menifee, CA 92584. The facility is comprised of 49 traditional classrooms and one technology classroom, administrative offices, a library/technology center, a student/teacher pavilion, a security office, parking areas, a student drop-off area, soccer/eight-man football field, and storage/maintenance facilities. In 2015, Hansberger & Klein, PLC closed a second $15,000,000 bond transaction allowing the school to break ground on an expansion to include a 31,000 square foot, one-story gymnasium, a baseball field with a snack bar and two restrooms, three storage buildings and additional parking spaces and landscaping. The school opened the new expansion to staff and students in the Fall of 2016.
